What our anger doesn’t let us see. My eyes filled with rage. Often in literature and film, anger is described as blurring our vision, and it is true. Anger does affect our vision. It keeps us from seeing our greatest need and the greatest of those around us. If left unchecked, our anger will keep even followers of Jesus from their calling. Join us as we close our study of Jonah with a reminder of what is our greatest need and the difference between that and our temporal desires. We will also ask and answer three questions to help us turn our anger into God-inspired mission.

Repentance It is a word that covers the pages of God’s Word. It is a word that we talk about a lot in church. But what does it actually mean? How does one actually repent? Why should I repent? How does God respond when we repent? These are all questions that we will answer this Sunday as we dive into Jonah chapter 3 and the third week of our study of this rich book.

In the second week in our study of the book of Jonah we come to what I am calling the best of the worst of Jonah. In chapter two of his book there is a lot of good. A lot of truth and theology of worship to the Lord that we can and should follow. But the real Jonah still comes through even here. The Jonah who was selfish and who clung to worthless idols while forgoing the faithful love of God. Join us for the second week of Jonah as we see what we can learn from the best of the worst of Jonah while avoiding the root cause that still sucked the life out of Jonah’s relationship with God.

Join us as we begin our brand new sermon series in the book of Jonah entitled Jonah, Becoming Uncomfortable for the eternal comfort of others. The book of Jonah is known for a big rebellion and a big fish but don’t miss the point to the story… God desires ALL PEOPLE to be saved and God has chosen YOU and I as the messengers of his salvation. It is easy to laugh at Jonah’s blatant disobedience to God’s command to GO and share His message of both judgement and grace but how often are we like Jonah? How often in the workplace, at the grocery store, at the family dinner table are we the ones silent when it comes to God’s message of repentance and forgiveness? How often does our silence make us no different than Jonah’s rebellion? This series and our look this week at Jonah chapter 1 is not designed to make us feel bad about the times in the past we have been more like Jonah than we care to admit. Rather, this series and message will seek to help us not be like Jonah now and in the future! It will seek to help us be uncomfortable with NOT sharing God’s message of repentance and forgiveness to all that we encounter. Join us as we begin what is sure to be a powerful series in God’s Word!
