Obedience?! What an outdated and hate-filled word! You have heard, witnessed, or experienced the visceral that our world has to obedience… both the word and the act of submission that it calls for. Our world hates authority. We are rebellious by nature. As the hymn attests, we are prone to wander. However, we all are obedient to something, and that something which we are obedient to stems from someone. That is the reality that each of us is faced with, regardless of how defiant we think we are. The question that we get to answer in this lifetime is to what and ultimately to who we are obedient. Each path of obedience has a destination. But not each path of obedience leads to peace. In fact, only one does, and Sunday, as we close our Stories of His Power sermon series, we will turn to 2nd Chronicles 34 to see how we can and why we should get from where we are (disobedience) to where we should want to be (obedience).

We have spent the last month studying both the power of God and the power of God lived out in the lives of God’s followers. During this study, we have seen God work mightily through the magnificent. Slaying giants and defeating enemy armies. But Sunday, as we turn to 2nd Kings 4:1-7, we will see a bit of a different script play out. Instead of God working powerfully and publically through the magnificent… we will see God work powerfully but quietly through the minute. Through the weak and the neglected. I invite you to join us this Mother’s Day to see the care and compassion of our God, even in the revelation of the power of God through the story of the widow, her servitude-bound sons, and a few jars of oil. Prepare your hearts for this worship gathering by reading 2nd Kings 4:1-7 and be here to honor the special ladies in our lives with us through special music and worship.

Sunday, we are going to jump back into our Stories of His Power sermon series by looking at one of the most familiar stories in all of the Bible. David and Goliath. For many of us, this is one of the first Bible lessons that we learned as a child. But it is our familiarity with this story that can keep us from seeing the real lessons of faith that this story relays. We know the characters of the story, and we maybe even know their background. In David, we see a man after God’s own heart. In Saul, we see a man after the world’s heart. In Israel, we see a people pursuing the world. But in Goliath, do we realize that we see an outsider to the nation of Israel get inside of God’s people’s hearts and reveal through a question what it was that was keeping them from being men and women after God’s heart? I would invite you to prepare your hearts for this worship gathering by reading 1st Samuel 16 & 17.

Moving from discouragement to faith We have all sinned. We all have moments of doubt. We all have weaknesses, and those weaknesses often have a loud voice in our lives. And because of these things, we spend a lot of our lives discouraged. But we also have a God who wants to move us from discouraged to confident. A God who wants to take us from where we are to faith. God did this powerfully through the life of a man named Gideon, and Sunday, as we begin our new sermon series, we will turn to Judges 6 & 7 to see how God takes us from discouraged to faith. But not only that… we will also see what God wants to do with this newfound faith
