Scripture: John 3:1-21

Big Question: How do we begin to believe and follow Jesus?  

Big Idea: Jesus is God come to teach… not a teacher from God.

• • V. #1-2 What we know about Nicodemus and what he thinks he knows about Jesus 
  • V. #3 What Jesus knows about Nicodemus and what he knows about Himself. 
  • V. #4 Nicodemus’ problem revealed: He sees himself on the same level as Jesus 
  • V. #5-8 Jesus sets the record straight and reveals the separation. 
  • V. #9 Nicodemus is still not getting it, and Jesus is about to illuminate that it is not because of ignorance… but because of blind eyes and a hard heart. 
  • V. #10-15 Burn! But don’t miss that this is a burn with a purpose. 
  • V. #16-18 What we know and see in God.  
  • V. #19-21 Big question of our lives and faiths answered… 
    • Why do some not believe in Jesus? 
    • Is it a lack of public awareness? No 
    • Is it a lack of knowledge? No 

• It is the battle that still wages even when the war is over. 

Application: 

• Who is Jesus in your eyes and heart?  
• Who do you say that Jesus is to the world? 

Discussion Question: 

1. We boiled this study down to this… the right answer to the question of who Jesus is. What are some other true but incomplete identities given to Jesus? How can our personal testimony “combat” these true but incomplete identities for Jesus? 

1. Testimony about Jesus is a large theme in the Gospel of John and our passage of study this evening. When asked or given the opportunity… Who do you say Jesus is?
