James: Faith that Perseveres-
What is God’s will for my life?
James 4:13-17 & Matthew 25:31-46
Big Question: What is the “good” that I ought to do?
Big Idea:
Intentions are not actions–followers of Christ are men and women of action.
You will not know God’s will until you know His ways.
Introduction: David, Nick, and Jesse eating Chick-fil-a in Pequea as the world ends.
The “good” you ought to do… four things you must do to know God’s will
- Followers of Jesus are prepared to do God’s will when they find it.
- The Parable of the unprepared Christian (Good Samaritan) Luke 10:25-37
- Followers of Jesus realize that God’s will is always in accordance with His Word.
- The Word has become flesh and its dwelling is among YOU!
- Followers of Jesus seek His guidance prayerfully and earnestly.
- How will you know His will if you do not know HIM?
- Followers of Jesus specifically plan to do what they believe is His will.
- At some point you have to just Nike it… just DO SOMETHING!
Conclusion: The time for obedience is NOW!
Pastor David Jeremiah puts it this way
“In business terms, yesterday is a canceled check, tomorrow is a promissory note. And today is the only cash on hand.”
Challenge: Expand your perspective on sin… Sin is not just something that you do but James reminds us that it can be something you don’t do as well.
If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.
James 4:17
