What is true wisdom? 

James 3:13-18  

Big Question: Who is wise and understanding among you? 

Big Idea: True wisdom is both proclaimed and performed. 

Introduction: I know that is right… but I am still not going to do it.  

Truths about true wisdom 

• What true wisdom is not… James 3:13-16 
  • It is not prideful 
  • It is not evil 
  • It is not selfish 
• What true wisdom… James 3:17-18 
  • is true to its source.  
  • Pursues peace.  
  • is submissive 

Conclusion: True wisdom is humble… it knows what it does not know. 

Socrates “the only true wisdom is knowing that you know nothing.” 

Confucius “true wisdom is knowing what you do not know.” 

Challenge: Trace your wisdom to its source… where is your wisdom stemming from? 

17 But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. 18 Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness.
